Viridian® on National Radio Show to discuss Weapon-Mounted Cameras in Policing

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – December 17, 2018 – Viridian Weapon Technologies has been in the headlines nationwide throughout 2018. The revolutionary FACT Duty™ Weapon-Mounted Camera (WMC™) has created a completely new category and is the only technology dedicated to capturing Officer Involved Shootings (OIS). Recently, Viridian announced an implementation with West Hennepin Public Safety, a law enforcement agency in the Minneapolis, Minnesota area. As part of the announcement, nationally syndicated and Minneapolis-based WCCO Radio host, Chad Hartman, invited Viridian President and CEO, Brian Hedeen, to appear on his show to further the discussion and learn more about the applicability of the WMC.

The timely discussion centered around the technology, how it works, its cost-effectiveness and why it works as a supplement or alternative to body cameras for police departments. Mr. Hartman and Hedeen also discussed how the WMC can make a difference for officers, municipalities and citizens alike. The full program is available here and the conversation regarding the FACT Duty begins at the 20:00 mark.

Officer involved shootings have affected almost every part of the country and continue to divide communities because of the lack of clear evidence and data to convey what really happened. The FACT Duty records automatically when the gun is drawn from the holster. It also provides an unobstructed view when an officer is in a shooting position and is easy and inexpensive for agencies to implement and manage. To date, more than 400 agencies are in the process of testing, implementing and deploying the FACT Duty Weapon-Mounted Camera.

“We appreciated the opportunity to speak to Chad,” said Hedeen. “His discussion and questions helped cover this topic from a variety of perspectives. Conversations like this and the ones that continue with police departments of all sizes and locations validate our decision to bring this product to market. We feel strongly about the need for this in all communities and welcome the chance to share additional insights with citizens, officers, lawmakers and city personnel.”

FACT Duty WMC

Viridian has created an important new category for law enforcement with the introduction of the FACT camera. This unique Weapon-Mounted Camera provides an unobstructed view of critical use-of-force events from the end of the firearm, addressing limitations officers can face with body cameras. The highly advanced WMC employs a 1080p full-HD digital camera with a microphone and 500 lumen tactical light. Viridian’s proprietary INSTANT-ON® technology automatically activates the camera and microphone whenever the officer draws the firearm from its holster. Not only does this eliminate risk of failure to manually turn on the camera during a critical event, but it also keeps the officer from fumbling with cumbersome equipment.

Body and dash cameras were not designed to capture officer-involved shootings. However, Viridian WMCs were designed specifically for this purpose. More information on FACT Duty WMCs can be found online and additional discussion surrounding this topic is available on Viridian’s Law Enforcement blog.
