THE VIRIDIAN RFX 11 GREEN DOT SIGHT FIRST IMPRESSIONS
As soon as I opened the package, I got excited. Viridian’s optics have consistently impressed me, and I own several of them. What sets them apart is their use of Green Dot technology for superior optics focusing on target acquisition. Even if they may not be the most stylish or feature-packed, their technology is worth the investment.
The first thing that struck me about the Viridian Sight was its size. It’s small enough to fit comfortably on a compact or subcompact pistol yet still large enough to maintain a broad field of view without hindering target acquisition speed.
It has a high-quality polymer body with minimal white markings and branding. The small white markings on the sides indicate elevation and windage adjustments. Two screws on top allow you to detach it from the included Picatinny rail for mounting on a Shield or RMSc footprint .
The Picatinny rail that it ships with allows you to attach this sight to any modern platform that uses the 1911 rail and is secured using the Torx head screw .
INSTALLATION AND SETUP OF THE VIRIDIAN RFX11 GREEN DOTS SIGH T
Getting the RFX11 onto a Picatinny rail was a breeze. I began by loosening the securing nut, slipped the sight over the rail, and then securely tightened it down. This simple process ensured a stable attachment to the rail.
ADVANCED SETUP FOR A 37-MILLIMETER LAUNCHER
To spice things up, I decided to use parts that I made with a 3D printer for my installation setup on the platform that I was testing. It added some challenge and a fun twist to the process. Here’s how I set it up:
- 3D Printed Grenade Launcher Sight : As part of my advanced setup, I incorporated a 3D-printed grenade launcher sight available on the internet, thanks to Are We Cool Yet (AWCY) . This sight is 3D printed and consists of multiple components, including a cam, shaft, and locking gear.
- Adjustable Elevation : Once assembled, the grenade launcher sight allowed me to make precise adjustments to the sight’s elevation. A twistable knob on the right-hand side allowed me to fine-tune the sight’s angle to match various shooting ranges with my launcher.
- Rapid Elevation Changes : Importantly, the RFX11’s sight is designed for more aggressive and rapid elevation adjustments, ideal for 37-millimeter launchers . With just a few clicks of the knob, I could change the elevation by 5 to 10 degrees, a significantly larger adjustment range compared to traditional sights. This quick and substantial change proved invaluable when I needed to adapt on the fly without the hassle of searching for the right wrench.
- Versatility for Launcher Applications : This level of versatility is invaluable when using any launcher, where you may frequently need to alter your sight’s elevation.
MOUNTING ON HAVOC 37-MILLIMETER LAUNCHER WITH KAOS STOCK SYSTEM
Once I had completed the setup of the 3D-printed grenade launcher sight and the RFX11 reflex sight , attaching the entire platform to my Havoc 37-millimeter launcher and Kaos Stock System was straightforward.
COST-EFFECTIVE APPROACH WITH KAOS STOCK
Being a frugal individual, I opted to purchase the Kaos Stock from evike.com . This decision allowed me to purchase an airsoft-grade stock , which saved me money, especially since I already had a surplus of AR-15 grips and buttstocks. By using my components, I could customize my launcher without the need to invest in a complete system.

- Compact and Lightweight Design : The Viridian RFX11 Green Dot Reflex Sight measures just over an inch and a half in height, with dimensions of less than an inch in both width and depth. This compact design enhances its practicality and minimizes the impact on your firearm’s overall profile.
- 3 MOA Reticle in Viridian Green : The sight features a 3 MOA reticle in Viridian green, providing a clear and precise aiming point. The vivid green reticle is both easy to acquire and visually appealing.
- Long Battery Life : Powered by a common CR 2032 battery , the optic boasts an impressive 30,000-hour battery life when set to the middle brightness setting. This extended battery life ensures that your optic remains ready for extended periods of use.
- Automatic Brightness Control : The Viridian 11 Green Dot Reflex Sight comes with automatic brightness control. While you may not have direct control over the 30,000 hours of battery life, this feature automatically adjusts the brightness to suit the ambient light conditions, ensuring optimal visibility without overwhelming your senses.
-
- Instant-On Feature with Ambient Light Sensor : One of the standout features of this optic is its instant-on capability with an ambient light sensor. Whenever you draw your firearm, the sight activates, ensuring that you’re always ready for action. Additionally, the ambient light sensor adjusts the dot’s brightness to match the lighting conditions, making it ideal for both low-light and bright outdoor situations.

THE VIRIDIAN RFX11 GREEN DOT REFLEX SIGHT FIELD TEST RESULTS
The field test results were nothing short of astonishing. The automatic brightness control with the instant-on feature worked flawlessly, adjusting the brightness to the environment without the need for manual intervention.
At no point did I think, “Dang! I wish I could turn the brightness up” or “Man! I wish I could turn the brightness down”. It always functioned as intended and was easy to acquire at the end of my kaos stock system. The 3 MOA is a large dot, making it perfectly suited for a handgun, grenade launcher , or less precise equipment.
I would have liked a smaller MOA dot on a rifle on my PDW. However, since that’s not what RFX11 is intended for, it is outside the range of the field test. In a close-quarters situation, it’s easy to acquire and the green dot really plays a part in helping you quickly acquire your target.
Though scientifically backed, I can confirm that my follow-up shots are much faster with a green dot than they are with a red dot. I believe this is something unique to Viridian weapon technologies .
The instant-on maintained its effectiveness even when I brought the sight up to my eye. The 16mm x 22mm window made it easy to acquire the green dot when outside even when the optic is roughly two and a half feet away from my face.
Mounting the sight is easy. Once mounted the sight will go to sleep after two minutes of being idle.
Another significant feature of this sight is its lack of distractions. It is simple, easy to use, and always on standby. It also allows for small adjustments thanks to its tiny, unobtrusive turrets. The optic also has a noticeable matte black finish allowing it to blend seamlessly.
The multicoating glass is transparent and user-friendly. I was able to lob round after round downrange, putting a smile on my face every time
